After travelling by train, plane and underground, we arrived at the hotel at around 5 p.m. It wasn’t the best place, but it was adequate and quite cheap by London standards.

The hotel also has another special feature. On the ground floor is the Oodles snack bar. In 1888, this was the site of the Frying Pan Pub. It was here that the story of Jack-the-Ripper and Mary Ann (Polly) Nichols began. Guided tours on this theme are also available.

The starting point for all activities was usually Aldgate East underground station, which is approximately 250 metres from the hotel.

After a delicious Indian dinner, we went for a walk towards the Tower and Tower Bridge.

We then took the underground from Monument back via Queen’s Walk to London Bridge.
