I almost didn’t set off as the sky was closing in. Fortunately, I did set off after all. As in 2018, the moon only became visible late, but towards the end of totality it was still clearly visible. Until around 8:30 pm, the brightness was not sufficient to penetrate the veil near the horizon.

Northern lights over the tidal Elbe
Last night, a remnant of the last substorm in Cuxhaven was still visible. I drove to Döse at around 10:30 pm without too much hope of seeing many auroras. However, a little northern light did become photographically visible.
Sail-In for the BremerhavenSail 2025
There was a lot going on on the dike in Imsum today… However, the conditions were very, very bad. With the 500 at long range, there was so much air movement in the pictures that it was horrifying. The panorama with the Nikon D800 and the Nikkor 300PF is still halfway usable.
Shabab Oman II
Getting in the mood for Sail 2025 in Bremerhaven. The Shabab Oman II moored in Cuxhaven for a few hours.
At Döse beach
It was supposed to be NLCs, but unfortunately there was only a slight suspicion. We tried twice at Döser Strand, but the clouds prevented a clear view both times. The first picture was taken on July 3, 2025 at around 11:40 pm. We tried for a while, but the clouds moved in rather than […]
NLCs over Grimmershörn
Last night there was a huge display of NLCs to marvel at. Extension was about 120° from west to north-east. At first the main part was visible in western direction while the north-eastern part was still mixed with the dark clouds at the lower edge. Later, with increasing darkness, the north-eastern area became […]
Second NLC this season
Unfortunately I had to miss the last NLC due to heavy clouds. But it worked out last night. At midnight it finally got dark enough for the NLCs to be clearly visible. The display was not as bright, so I was not able to image such high-contrast structures as last year. Here […]

Gegen […]
