Yesterday evening it worked – for this year – the first time properly. The last weeks were either without NLCs or it was so cloudy that they were unfortunately not visible from here. From about 23 o’clock the first light structures were visible. After midnight a nice display appeared over the North Sea. […]

From yesterday’s walk at (almost) high tide and wind from low pressure OTTO. The images shown were all taken with an orange filter (corresponding to about 590nm).

NLC over the North Sea
Yesterday evening, it had also already announced, the first really good NLC were to be seen from Cuxhaven. First for about 30 minutes a very unusual structure was visible in NNE. In this form I had not experienced this the last years. That alone was worth going out again late in the evening. A […]
Waxing Moon at 12%
A shot from yesterday evening. Venus was then nevertheless a little far away from the moon, that did not work to get both on the picture (at least with 500mm focal length). Shot with Nikon D500 and Nikkor 500f/5.6 PF; freehand at ISO 100!

Hamburg Seehospital (Nordheim Foundation)
Yesterday afternoon I went again to the area of the Hamburg Seehospital (Nordheim Foundation) to take some infrared pictures with the D5300. Some of the images were taken with the 720nm filter, but most were taken with the red filter (should be about 680nm).
Grimmershörn Bay
So far there were unfortunately still no NLCs to see, if I tried it. However, also no clear radar signals were to be seen yet and the chances of success with it with maximally 50%.
Full spectrum infrared
First test with the Nikon D5300 (full spectrum IR). It’s a relief to be able to take the IR shots with the LiveView. The additional quality of the D5300 compared to the D80 does the rest.
